The Three Pagodas (sān tǎ 三塔) are located at the foot of Yingle Peak (yìng lè fēng 应乐峰) of Cangshan Mountain (cāng shān 苍山) at the northwest suburb of Dali Ancient City (dà lǐ gǔ chéng 大理古城). In the time of Nanzhao (nán zhào 南诏) and Dali Kingdoms (dà lǐ guó 大理国), Chongshengsi (chóng shèng sì 崇圣寺) was the largest monastery in this area and the Three Pagodas were only a part of it. Now, the monastery has long disappeared and only the Three Pagodas remain.
